Archaeological Excavation at the Multi-Period Brecciara Site
Archaeological excavation at the multi-period Brecciara site, Serracapriola (FG). 2020/2021
Stratigraphic excavation revealed a multi-period site with several palaeosols, documenting continuous occupation across a broad chronological sequence from the Late Copper Age/Early Bronze Age to the post-medieval period. The investigation focused in particular on stratigraphic contexts associated with the protohistoric phase of the settlement. The evidence—remains of buildings or structured areas, beaten-earth floors, collapse deposits, foundations and load-bearing elements with surviving sections of elevation, internal divisions, and numerous combustion structures of varying types—indicates that the site played a central role in the territorial organisation of the lower Fortore Valley during the Bronze Age.
